Venice in London: Olympia 1891 – 1893.

A delightful children’s book published as a spin-off to the Olympia event.

Below is the program of Imre Kiralfy’s extravaganza, Venice in London, a spectacular event held at Olympia from 26 December 1891 to January 1893. The event was enormously popular and was sponsored by Joe Lyons and Harold Hartley. 57 genuine Venetian gondoliers were brought over to lend authenticity. Sea battles, Shylock, the Rialto bridge, full orchestras, choirs – no expense was spared. This is an interesting document in many ways – even the advertisements have considerable charm.
